How the Index is computed.
The same rules the engine’s ticker runs, and the reason for each.
- The job
- A million tokens in and a million out. One figure people can compare week to week.
- The model
- The cheapest listed model for that job, at pool prices, not at list. When the cheapest changes, the Index says which one it is.
- The price
- Market first: a credit’s spot price in gpt-5 credit, times gpt-5’s list price. gpt-5, the hub, is the reference and is valued at list.
- Stored, not recomputed
- Sampled every minute and kept for thirty days. An old day is never re-priced with today’s list of models, so history does not quietly change.
- Public
- The Index and its history answer without a key or a login. A rate board behind a login is a rate board nobody quotes.
